Day 1 - Hog Heaven

First full day in Phuket, success! My body isn't adjusting well to the time change, but after taking two Tylenol PMs I finally got a few hours of sleep last night. Here are a few highlights from yesterday.

1) Its beautiful and everything here is so cheap! Mike told us the average family lives off of $200 a month.
2) The city smells like a dumpster, there are bugs everywhere and on everything (including food).
3) I rented a scooter! You would have thought I learned my lesson in Costa Rica (totaled scooter, $$$ in damages, horrible road rash, trip cut in half due to injuries) to never rent a scooter when traveling, but the options here are to either sit at home and do nothing OR join the people and get a hog.
4)Toilet paper is rare, there is a hose attached to the back of our toilet. Interesting and also refreshing once you get use to it.
5)Katie and I got a one hour Thai/oil massage, on the beach, for 300 baht! ($10 USD!!) I would say the experience was much like that of a pedicure where you swear the Asian women are talking about you the whole time.
6) Well... if you have my phone number, you will have to call for this story, not sure its blog worthy, but mention "tricky boy on scooter" and I will be sure to fill you in :)
7) We purchased most of our airlines tickets from country to country; for anyone who would like to meet us somewhere the itinerary is as follows:
Vietnam to Indonesia -May 8th
Indo to Singapore -May 18th
Singapore to Malaysia -May 23rd
Malaysia to Gold Coast, Australia -May 25th
Visitors Welcome!!
8) And lastly, Katie's luggage finally arrived!!!

That's about it for yesterday; I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Today we plan to paint the city red on our scooters. Please pray for our safety!!!!

Much love,

Whitney

Big Buddha up on the mountain, we are taking our hogs over there today!

Watch out Thailand!

That hose is our toilet paper. Its not so bad as long as you don't mind drip drying!
